Fameuse is one of the most desirable dessert apples of its season, highly valued for its beautiful appearance and white, tender flesh with excellent flavor. The fruit has thin skin that deepens to purplish-black when fully colored, and stores well in cold storage through the holidays. The tree is hardy and reliable, though the fruit is susceptible to apple scab; it performs best in the Champlain district and St. Lawrence valley regions of New York.
