Royal Limbertwig

Southern Appalachian heritage apple of the Limbertwig family, widely sold by southern nurseries in the 19th century. Above-medium to large, roundish- conical fruit; greenish-yellow with a dull light-red blush and darker red stripes; yellow, fine-grained, tender, juicy, mildly subacid flesh. Ripens early October into November and is prized for apple butter; also used for cider. Documented in the USDA Pomological Watercolor Collection.
