McIntosh is a chance seedling from Ontario that belongs to the Fameuse group and is well-adapted to a wider range of climates than Fameuse itself. The fruit has bright deep red skin with very tender, perfumed, delicious white flesh that is crisp, juicy, and sprightly. It is desirable for local markets and special trade, though its lack of firmness limits suitability for general handling; it ripens unevenly and keeps until December or January in cold storage.
