A red-striped apple of medium size, good for culinary purposes but not equal to standard dessert varieties of its season. The fruit stores well until February in ordinary storage, or April–May in cold storage, and hangs well to the tree with little loss from drops. Originally from Edgar County, Illinois, it was widely planted in Wisconsin, Iowa, and the Mississippi valley region but is less well-adapted to New York conditions.
