Melon is a dessert apple with crisp, tender, juicy flesh and a pleasantly subacid flavor, especially suitable for local markets and fancy trade. It develops best under favorable conditions with good size and attractive coloring, but proves unreliable in commercial orchards with high losses from undersized or poorly colored fruit. The variety is moderately hardy and productive but is now seldom grown or offered by nurserymen.
