Cider
Red-fleshed American apple of Malus niedzwetzkyana lineage — deep beet-red flesh, very tart and tannic — used for cider and red applesauce as well as fresh. Origin disputed: attributed both to Carl Hansen (Brookings, South Dakota, ~1949) and to Morris Towle (Winthrop, Maine).
