The Roxbury is the most popular russet apple cultivated in New York, prized for its excellent keeping qualities and appeal to southern, western, and northwestern markets. Well-grown specimens are of good marketable size and attractive appearance, though highly variable in different localities. The variety is biennial in bearing tendency and moderately reliable as a cropper when grown on rich soils in favorable locations.
