Northwestern Greening
Dual Purpose
Northwestern Greening is a hardy, pale yellow-green apple originating from Wisconsin and introduced in 1872. It is valued for cold climates where Rhode Island Greening cannot be grown, with reliable biennial cropping. While acceptable as a dessert apple and cooking well with fine color, it is inferior in flavor to Rhode Island Greening and suffers from cork-like discoloration in the core.
