1 / 9Rambo
Malus domestica Borkh. Borkh.
Dual Purpose
Rambo is a medium-sized fall to early-winter apple with pale greenish-yellow skin mottled and striped with red and gray bloom. When well-colored, it displays attractive bright red over yellow, though often the red is not predominant. The flesh is firm, fine-grained, very crisp, tender, and juicy with a mild subacid, aromatic flavor suitable for dessert. Though once widely cultivated in Delaware, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey, it has gradually declined in popularity over the past fifty years and is no longer recommended for commercial planting in New York, though it remains valued for home use.
