Fall Orange
Malus domestica Borkh. Borkh.
Dual Purpose
Fall Orange is a yellow or greenish apple with occasional red shading, grown to good size when well-tended. It offers agreeable subacid flavor and is excellent for cooking; when fully ripe, it becomes a fine dessert apple. Hardy and long-lived, it is now seldom planted in New York despite historical cultivation, as it is not commercially viable due to its poor color, tender fruit, and shipping difficulties.
