Paragon is a southern variety of the Winesap type originating in Tennessee around 1830. The fruit is medium-sized with dark red coloring and develops firm, juicy, mildly subacid flesh. While well-regarded in southern apple regions, it was considered unlikely to succeed commercially in New York.
