1 / 31Ben Davis
Malus domestica Borkh. Borkh.
Dessert
Ben Davis is the leading commercial apple variety grown across much of the United States, particularly dominant in the South and Southwest. The fruit is handsomely colored and thick-skinned, with firm, aromatic flesh of mild subacid flavor; it keeps exceptionally well in storage, often lasting into June or July in cold storage. The tree is hardy, vigorous, comes into bearing early, and bears annually and abundantly, making it a favorite of nurserymen despite concerns about fruit quality in northern regions.
