Malus domestica Borkh. Borkh.
Culinary
Grenadier is a large, round to conical culinary apple recorded about 1860, with pale green skin fading to light yellow and a closed eye. Highly valued as a market variety for its excellent fertility and free-bearing qualities, it cooks to a froth and represents the most popular cooking apple for August harvests. Often confused with Gold Medal, it can be distinguished by that variety's distinctive large red winter buds.
