Coul Blush is a medium-sized, roundish apple with pale yellow skin marked with dull and deeper red, resembling the Hawthornden. The flesh is yellowish, crisp, juicy, brisk, and well-flavored; it is excellent for cooking (October to February) and also serves as a good dessert apple, reportedly finer than Hawthornden. Raised by Sir G. S. Mackenzie in Ross-shire, the tree is hardy, vigorous, upright, and an abundant bearer, particularly suited to northern and exposed situations.
