Newark Pippin
Malus domestica Borkh. Borkh.
Dual Purpose
Newark Pippin is a yellow fall apple of the Fall Pippin group, with good size and excellent quality. The flesh is firm, juicy, rich, and highly flavored, suitable for both dessert and culinary use. Once popular in the Middle States and esteemed for cider, it has become nearly obsolete by the time of this writing, though Downing considered it unprofitable.
