Deacon Jones is a large, showy apple with yellow skin heavily overlaid in red. The tree is vigorous, early-bearing, and very productive with excellent fruit retention. The flesh is coarse with mild flavor and moderate quality, though it keeps well from November through March and may have commercial value despite limited dessert appeal.
