York Imperial
Malus domestica Borkh. Borkh.
Dessert
York Imperial is an important commercial apple grown widely in the Middle Atlantic states and westward to Missouri and Kansas. The fruit is large and finely colored when well-developed, though its oblique shape makes machine paring difficult. The flesh is firm, crisp, and sprightly subacid to mild subacid in flavor, with good to very good quality, keeping well in storage from January through March or later.
