Jonafree is a vigorous dessert apple with yellow, fine-grained flesh that is crisp and juicy. Selected in 1972 and introduced in 1979 from Urbana, Illinois, it results from a complex deliberate cross of (14-644 × Jonathan) × (Gallia Beauty × Red Spy) and is ready to pick from early September through October.
