A large, ovate apple with dull green and brownish-red streaked skin, distinctive for its rich, aromatic flavor. Available December to May, it is one of the best dessert apples. The tree is hardy and moderately productive, performing well as an espalier or dwarf form; it was discovered around 1800 near Truro, Cornwall, and introduced to the London Horticultural Society in 1813 by Sir Christopher Hawkins.
