Ashmead's Kernel is a dessert apple raised by Dr. Ashmead of Gloucester around 1720, notable for its firm, pale yellow flesh with pronounced aromatic character and russet-covered greenish-yellow skin. It keeps well from December to March but is a poor cropper. A larger form known as Improved Ashmead's Kernel also exists.
