One of the largest and best culinary apples with greenish-yellow skin covered in russet reticulations. The flesh is yellowish-white, crisp, juicy, sugary, and briskly flavoured. Extensively cultivated in Sussex since its origin with Shepherd at Uckfield, introduced more widely as 'Alfriston' by the Horticultural Society.
