Williams is a bright red dessert apple of mild, pleasant flavor with aromatic notes. Suitable for fresh eating but not for culinary uses, it ripens unevenly in late August and early September and does not ship well due to its tender skin. Originated in Roxbury, Massachusetts over 150 years before 1905; now rarely planted but still listed by nurserymen.
