Waltham
Also known as: Waltham Abbey Seedling (tentative), Dr. Harvey (tentative)
Orchard label "Waltham" — most likely the English cooking apple "Waltham Abbey Seedling" (UK National Fruit Collection accession id=6586; raised c.1810 at Waltham Abbey, Essex by John Barnard; NFC synonyms include Dr. Harvey, Bardfield Defiance, Emberson's Apple), a sharp cooker plausible in a cider blend. This mapping is INFERENTIAL: no source documents "Waltham Abbey Seedling" being shortened to the bare label "Waltham." Ruled out: the grape "Waltham Cross," and any American/Massachusetts "Waltham" (absent from Beach's Apples of New York and Downing). A weaker alternate is the dessert apple "Beauty of Waltham." Not present in the Nick Botner collection.
